UNFPA organizes workshops to strengthen capacity of young people in leadership positions in Suriname

To strengthen the capacity of young people in leadership positions in Suriname, the United Nations Populations Fund Suriname (UNFPA) has planned a series of workshops. The second session took place on Saturday 13 July with the aim of informing young people in an interactive way about certain issues related to sexual reproductive health.

According to Judith Brielle, Liaison Officer of UNFPA, it is important that this group knows more about such topics, because they are often the point of contact as a peer educator, but also that they are well initiated in burning social issues such as teenage pregnancy. In addition, tools are provided to be able to make analyses based on facts and figures so that they know what they can focus on as youth leaders and peer educators.

This session was provided by Julia Terborg, who focused primarily on research into issues related to the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents. Young people from different organizations such as the Youth Institute, Youth Advisory Group and the Rotaract participated.

For this year, 3 more sessions are planned, the next of which is on August the second with the theme of monitoring and evaluation. UNFPA is a United Nations (UN) agency that promotes issues such as gender, data and population development, and sexual reproductive health.
