Assessment of Essential Services in the Health, Social, Justice, and Police Sector in Suriname
This comprehensive assessment illuminates critical gaps in the provision of support for survivors of GBV, even though various services exist. A prominent challenge lies in the concentration of these services primarily within the capital, Paramaribo. Furthermore, the responsibilities are distributed among various government and non-governmental agencies represented in the National Domestic Violence Commission, which coordinates the national response. However, not all the needs of survivors are adequately met through this mechanism.
The overarching goal of this report is to contribute to the eradication of GBV by evaluating the capacity of the existing essential services in Suriname to meet the standards delineated in the Essential Service Packages (ESP).
UNFPA's mission is to bolster the Surinamese government's efforts in providing enhanced access to a well-coordinated suite of essential and quality multi-sectoral services for all women and girls who have endured gender-based violence.
